Brooklyn StrongStart

May 21 – 25, 2012

This week’s hours:

Monday – closed

Tuesday – Friday – 8:30 – 12

Hope you’re enjoying the long weekend.  On Friday, our caterpillars were becoming quite large and I’m predicting that some will have formed into their chrysalis over the weekend.

So this week we are all about butterflies.  At the art table we will make butterflies using the salad spinners, melting crayons, using ziplock bags, glitter and Band-Aids.

Wednesday at recess, Brooklyn’s Life Skills Program will be holding a used book sale.  You are welcome to browse through and see if there is anything of interest while supporting this great program.

Thursday we will be making a special butterfly snack using celery sticks, cream cheese and pretzels.

For families that have children entering kindergarten in September, you are welcome to join Mrs. Cochrane’s kindergarten class at 9:30 on Thursday.  This is an opportunity for you and your 5 year old to experience what happens in a kindergarten class.  Please, if you have younger children, have someone else look after them during this time.

Monday, May 28th is our monthly trip to visit our grand friends at Glacier View Seniors Lodge.  StrongStart will be open from 8:30 – 10 then close so we can meet at GV Lodge at 10:30.  We will read with our grand friends, play with the parachute and sing some songs.  Please sign up at the centre or let me know if you’re coming.

We will be going for a walk through the Lerwick Woods after our visit to the Lodge.  Meet on Sheraton Rd off of MacDonald Road.  See map at school.

Wednesday, May 30 we will be closed to participate in the Bike to the Park event at Simms Park in Courtenay.  All forms of wheeled transportation are welcome, bikes, tricycles, push toys, strollers, etc.  Please sign up at the centre so we have an idea of how much snack to provide.

June 6th is StrongStart’s annual Teddy Bear Picnic at Anderton Therapeutic Gardens.  There is a limit of how many children can attend from each centre.  The sign-up sheet will be available this week at the centre.

Have a great week, Maureen

Caterpillar Crawled

A caterpillar crawled to the top of a tree.
"I think I'll take a nap," said he
So under the leaf he began to creep.
He spun a cocoon and he fell asleep.
For two long weeks he slept in that cocoon bed,
Till spring came along and said,
"Wake up! Wake up! You sleepy head."
From under the leaf there was a cry

“Look, look at me, I’m a butterfly”.
